Questions about Podcast in a Box?
Here’s what to know about the kit, the app, recording with multiple iPhones, and the Kickstarter launch.
What is Podcast in a Box?
Podcast in a Box is a portable podcast system that brings professional audio hardware, phone-based cameras, and a guided iPhone/iPad multicamera workflow together in one hard-sided case.
What comes in the base kit?
The base kit includes two PIAB dynamic microphones, a dedicated audio interface, two desktop boom stands, two tabletop phone/tablet mounts, required cabling, and a hard-sided carrying case.
Are phones included?
No. Podcast in a Box is designed around the phones you already own. Phones and tablets are not included with the kit.
How many phones can I use?
The current iPhone/iPad workflow is designed around one host device plus additional iPhones used as camera angles. The V1 experience supports up to three additional iPhones as cameras.
Do I need a separate camera?
No. Your iPhones act as the video cameras. That keeps the setup portable and removes the need to carry a traditional multicamera production kit.
How does the audio work?
The included microphones connect to the dedicated audio interface, giving you a central professional audio source for the recording workflow.
Do I need extra adapters or cables?
The kit includes the required cabling for the supported setup, including Lightning and USB-C connectivity. You should not need to build a separate cable kit before getting started.
What is Auto Multicam?
Auto Multicam creates a speaker-based first cut of your multicamera recording. You can still review and make manual changes to the edit.
Can I edit the recording manually?
Yes. The app includes manual multicamera editing so you can choose which camera angle appears in the finished recording.
Can I export my recordings?
The app workflow is designed to let you complete the multicamera edit and export your finished recording. Pro users can also export individual feeds.
Does Podcast in a Box work with Android?
The app is launching first for iPhone and iPad. Android support is planned for later.
When does Podcast in a Box launch?
Podcast in a Box is coming to Kickstarter on September 22.
How much will it cost?
The planned retail price is $649. The public Kickstarter Early Bird price is $499.
When will orders ship?
The current target is December 2026 for Kickstarter orders.
Is this only for permanent podcast studios?
No. Portability is one of the core reasons Podcast in a Box exists. It is designed for creators who want to record in different rooms, offices, homes, studios, events, or other locations without rebuilding a full production setup each time.
